Brief account about the Calendimaggio festival in Florence in 1343, ca. 1550 - ca. 1600.

Single leaf containing a half-page account written in late sixteenth century calligraphy, probably a copy of an original dated Ma[ggio] 15, 1343. Pagination number 16 inscribed on the upper right corner. The title summarizes the content: "Come per le feste di Maggio el Duca ordinoĢ molte brigate per tutta la terra a festeggiar." The so-called duca d'Atene, head of the Signoria in Florence, enlisted six "brigades" of performers to enliven six neighborhoods (listed) with music and dance during the Calendimaggio festival. He backed his initiative by funding costumes, food, wine and expenses for those artists recruited from the "popolo minuto."
